A historic town that gives a fascinating window into the past capturing the narrative of a bygone era and those who sought the quest for gold.

Isimangaliso Wetland Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park’s uniqueness lies in its remarkable combination of estuarine lakes sub-tropical coastline, forests and wildlife.

Dundee Battlefields

This is where the Anglo Boer War of 1899-1902 began + the Talana Museum and its superb exhibits give a great overview of how the battle began.

Itinerary

day 1

Johannesburg to Mpumalanga

Head east towards Mpumalanga visiting the gold mining town of Pilgrims Rest and viewpoint over God's Window. Short walk to Mac Mac Pools then onto chalets for overnight accommodation on edge of escarpment.


day 2-3

Mpumalanga to Kruger National Park

Morning walk in Blyde River Canyon with views over the Three Sisters and river below. Afternoon game drive in the Lowveld. Staying in tented lodge gives opportunity to experience the wilds of big game country. Early morning game walk with local ranger.

day 4

Kruger National Park

This is Big Game country and the game drives go south through the reserve with professional guides imparting their extensive knowledge.

day 5-6

Kruger National Park to Swaziland

Enter Kingdom of Swaziland and travel through lush fruit farming area before heading to mountains to spend 2 nights on the outskirts of Malalotja Nature Reserve with a full day walk through the mountainous reserve. Visit the craft and medicine markets on Day 7 when passing through the capital Mbabane.

day 7-8

Swaziland to iSimangaliso Wetland Park

Crossing back into South Africa and into the Zululand heartland, spend morning at the Hluhluwe Game Reserve where rhino conservation is a priority. Late afternoon visit to False Bay through the sand forests and alongside the estuary learning about the importance of iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

day 9-10

iSimangaliso Wetland park to Zululand

Travel through Zululand to the small town of Dundee where battles were fought. Time spent at Tulana Museum with free time in the afternoon. Next morning explore the Isandlwana battlefield before embarking on an exciting hike tracing the steps of two British fugitives. Visit Rourkes Drift before returning to lodge.

day 11-12

Zululand to Drakensberg

Overnight at the base of the "berg" with full day walking the mountain trails before an invigorating dip in the clear mountain streams of the Royal Natal National Park.

day 13

Drakensberg

Journey to Witsieshoek at the foot of Sentinel Peak to start trek to the top of Drakensberg Amphitheatre and beautiful Tugela Falls with unparalleled views down to kwazulu-Natal. Lodge accommodation is perched high in the mountains overlooking the Mont-Aux-Sources mountain range.

day 14

Drakensberg to Johannesburg

Leisurely start to the day with chance to spot the endangered bearded vulture before returning to Johannesburg. Tour ends approx. 5pm.
day 1
