Whimsical Wishes on Inle Lake

Good things come to those who wait – Inle Lake is perhaps one of the most longed for destinations on the list of Myanmar. The lake is as large as the sea, fringed by whispering marshes, stilt houses, drifting gardens, temples and ethnic minorities.

Experience the evocative sights and sounds of Yangon – admire the colonial style buildings in the bustling downtown district, the city is in the midst of a rebirth, the signs of which can be seen in the bustling traffic, building, and new bars and restaurants popping up.

Itinerary

day 1

Yangon

On arrival into Yangon, you will be met at the airport + escorted to your hotel.
day 2

Yangon to Mandalay

Fly to Mandalay. Later drive to the Ayeyarwaddy River + board boat to visit Mingun. Visit Settawya Pagoda, containing a footprint of Lord Buddha then to nearby Mingun Pagoda, Mingun Bell, the world’s largest intact hanging bronze bell + finally Hsinbyume Pagoda. Drive to Shwenandaw Monastery, continue to Kuthodaw Pagoda + finally watch the sun set from atop Mandalay Hill.
day 3

Mandala-Amarapura-Ava-Sagaing-Mandalay

Drive to the ancient capital of Amarapura + en route stop at U-Bein Bridge. Visit Mahagandayon monastery, residence to around 1,000 monks then a local ferry to Ava + tour by horse cart. Continue to Nanmyin Watch Tower, visit Bagaya Kyaung] + Bagaya monastery then cross Sagaing Bridge + enjoy picturesque Sagaing Hill. Visit Soon U Ponya Shin Paya, offering sweeping views + U Min Thounzeh Pagoda. From Sagaing Hill, enjoy magnificent sunset views before returning back to Mandalay.
day 4

Mandalay – Mt. Popa – Bagan

Depart for Mt. Popa, to visit Taungkalat. Mt. Popa is 1,518 m. high, but our focus is Popa Taungkalat at 737 m - its cone-shaped form being an extinct volcano core + home of Myanmar’s 37 most important nats (spirits), housed in a shrine. Continue to Bagan, stopping en route for photo stops + to visit a local village.
day 5

Bagan

Visit Nyaung U market in Old Bagan, then on to Shwezigon Pagoda’s golden stupa. Pass Tharaba Gateway into Old Bagan + on to Ananda Temple. Photo stop at the tallest temple Thatbyinnyu. In the afternoon, stop at Mingalazedi + on to the Myinkaba area + Gubyaukgyi Temple with its fine stuccowork. Visit Dhammayangyi, famous for its interlocking mortarless brickwork + a lacquer ware workshop + enjoy a horse cart ride to Thitsawaddy Pagoda for magnificent views.
day 6

Bagan to Inle Lake

Fly to Heho + transfer to Nyaung Shwe town then travel by long-tail boat to your hotel. Inle Lake is 875m. above sea level, the calm waters contrast sharply with the surrounding hills.. Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, then in the afternoon, stop at several workshops on + around the lake + see cheroot-making + boatbuilding. Stop at Inn Paw Khon village - one of the many silk + lotus weaving workshops.
day 7

Inle Lake + Hidden Inndein

Tour Ywama village, one of Inle’s most attractive villages + see floating gardens. Continue by boat to Nga Phe Kyaung + its extensive collection of Buddha images then by long-tail boat to Inle Lake’s western shore to visit the beautiful Alaung Sitthou area (Inndein Temple Complex) consisting of dozens of small ancient stupas overgrown by moss + vegetation in a jungle-like setting.
day 8

Inle Lake - Heho - Yangon

Fly back to Yangon. Later, visit Bogyoke Aung San (Scott) Market + discover a wide range of handicrafts. Continue to downtown Yangon + during a 1 hr leisurely walk, enjoy some of the best that colonial-style Yangon has to offer. Visit Sule Pagoda + experience a sunset from unforgettable Shwedagon Pagoda, with its world-famous golden stupa.

Today is at leisure until your transfer back to the airport. Your stay can be extended at additional cost.
