Taru Villas – Mawella, Tangalle
One of the stand out spots on our radar, this once upon a time private villa has flung open its doors as a beautiful boutique hotel nestled on the deserted shores of Mawella Bay. Homely in design and with discreet staff who know how to deliver the personal touch, the ethos of R+R doesn’t come easier. There are only 5 private bedrooms blossoming in beauty, but the shared dining and cozily bright lounge space invite the art of conversation over well shaken cocktails and grilled fish dishes.
A mile of sugar white sands flanked by waters of green and blue, and the Taru Villa hotel is lucky enough to take centre stage in this scene. The beach is ever inviting for those who love to stroll at sunset across the sands or swim in Bombay sapphire coloured waters on calmer days. The rest of the landscape is pure tranquility, but those seeking local charm can drive 15 minutes to the fishing town of Tangalle.
Your Room + Facilities
Earthy colour schemes and oversized works of art – you will feel as though you are hanging out at a cool friend’s home. Colonial touches are woven through the design, with shuttered windows and shaded verandahs. Each of the five rooms delivers luxury as standard fayre, offering romantic four poster beds and private bathrooms. The master suite is the finest with its charmed courtyard and ocean views.
Few islands in the world offer the diversity of Sri Lanka. From the vibrant + chaotic capital of Colombo, the central plains of the Cultural Triangle, tea plantations, exotic wildlife in national parks to coastlines of palm-fringed crescent shaped beaches.
On a different latitude but just as diverse and a little more cosmopolitan, Singapore has redefined itself as one of the great culinary cities of the world to be enjoyed over several days + not just a stopover.
