Stone House, Kandy
The intimate mansion is built on colonial class in a way where time seems to stand still. Time enough for drinks on the well-manicured lawn, an evening dip in the pool, and long lingering dinners. The pace here is set by the guests and with only 5 rooms, the Stone House is an evocative and gentle place to stay.
The Stone House may sit only 5 minutes from the creative crush of Kandy, but once behind the cool and chic walls you feel a world away. The mountains of Hungasgiriya rise dramatically in the background, and the palace of the last king – the Temple of the Tooth is also close by. Animal lovers will be wooed by the chance to bottle feed grey giants at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
Your Room + Facilities
With 2 rooms and 3 suites, the classic colonial touch is en-pointe at the Stone House. Local artwork adorns the walls, king beds are dressed in quality fabrics, and bathrooms gleam. The Thamba suite is stashed away on the upper floor and boasts antique pieces, 19th century lithographs, a handcrafted bed and concept bathroom. The Kalu suite invites you to sink into a jacuzzi bath and admire mud canvas artwork against flickering candlelight.
Few islands in the world offer the diversity of Sri Lanka. From the vibrant + chaotic capital of Colombo, the central plains of the Cultural Triangle, tea plantations, exotic wildlife in national parks to coastlines of palm-fringed crescent shaped beaches.
On a different latitude but just as diverse and a little more cosmopolitan, Singapore has redefined itself as one of the great culinary cities of the world to be enjoyed over several days + not just a stopover.
