Winter Ice Magic Festival
Be captivated by the magic of the Canadian Rockies, as you gaze up at glittering snow white peaks and glaciers, skate across frozen lakes, take husky rides through forested fir trails and breathe in the crisp cold air surrounded by these incredible mountains. Combined with the world class ice-carving event, the Ice Magic Festival in Lake Louise, this truly is an unforgettable experience.
Arriving in the bustling resort town of Banff from Calgary, witness vistas beyond your imagination as you check in for three magical nights at the Fairmont Banff Springs, a fairy-tale castle of turrets and elegance that is one of the great railway hotels of the 19th Century.
Wake each day to glimpses of nature all around as Banff sits in the middle of Canada’s first National Park. The town’s centre is small but packed with great breweries, world class cuisine and cutting edge galleries as well as a vibrant nightlife.
Take a gondola ride to the dizzying tip of Sulphur Mountain, or go beyond and learn about the history of dog sledding in the Canadian Rockies on a dog sled tour (optional), ice walk at Johnson Canyon for visual impressions of frozen waterfalls via suspended catwalks, and to truly discover Banff National Park, set out on snowshoe and find your own secret trail of winter’s wonderland.
Magical Lake Louise
Enjoy a tranquil sleigh ride through snow-frosted trees with fabulous views of the surrounding peaks, or set off on a dog sled tour gliding through the pristine snowy wilderness.
Ice Carving Magic
Each winter for the past 20 years the amazing Ice Magic Festival is held in the spectacular surroundings of Lake Louise. It is where ice artists from around the world are invited to showcase their skills in a competition that combines the physical with the precision of their artistic talents. Time your visit to coincide with the event being held 17-27 January, 2019. (Note: Event dates and details are subject to change).
Bucket List Photo Safari
One to tick off your list is this uniquely Canadian destination experience where you soar over the Rockies to witness the incredible natural phenomenon on Abraham Lake, where vegetation that lies on the lake’s floor, in a natural process of decomposition is consumed by bacteria which in turn emits methane gas bubbles that freeze in the ice under the lake’s surface. This is a photo safari like no other with a 20 minute six glacier helicopter tour plus landing in a snowy valley to head off for a one-hour snowshoe hike before flying back to base (additional cost and based on minimum of 2 people).
