Winter Adventures in the Yukon
The awesome beauty of winter in the Yukon – one of the true last frontiers – is an experience like no other, and just perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Stun your friends with postings of images of dogsledding through snow covered forests, snowshoe over blinding white snow, and ice fish on frozen lakes. There will be stories to tell for a lifetime.
Night Sky Viewing
After checking into your hotel accommodation in Whitehorse, take your chance at seeing the Northern Lights by driving to the Aurora Northern Lights Centre, 20 minutes from town. Located in open fields with no artificial lights, it provides the perfect viewing conditions, and while it is cold and crisp outside, the cabin will keep you warm and dry.
Dog Sledding + Hot Springs
The adrenaline rush as you head off across an ice-covered river in the Takhini Valley in the shadow of mountains, where the only sounds you hear are the barks of your dogs and cries of birds swooping above. Dog sledding is both a vital form of transport and competitive sport and is a ‘must do’ when visiting the Yukon. Afterwards, to “warm-down” you will head into the Takhini Hotsprings to relax in the naturally heated mineral waters.
Log Cabin Comfort + Winter Sports
Over the next two days enjoy a full day snow mobile adventure, take a snowshoe hike into beautiful mountain country and try your luck ice fishing – even if you don’t catch anything, it is great to enjoy a hot drink afterwards around a camp fire, enjoying the beauty all around. On the final day, enjoy one final snowshoe hike before returning to Whitehorse where the tour ends.
Note: Viewing of the Aurora Borealis is dependent on weather and cannot be guaranteed.
