Winter Adventures in Banff
When the first flurry of snow falls, winter adventurers should head straight for the slopes of Banff. Canada’s premier winter destination is a wonderland of powdered hills, sparkling mountains, charming cabins with open fires, and husky rides through the silent fir forests. Join us for the most spectacular season and icy escapades in Banff.
Framed Peaks of Winter Wonderland
After touching down in Calgary, you will be whisked away to the breathtaking landscape of Banff. Strolling along the main street you are greeted with the framed backdrop of stunning Mount Rundle and Mount Cascade. Beyond the borders of the tiny town are pristine turquoise lakes and the mighty Bow Valley Parkway, home to the Johnston Canyon and its bubbling springs.
Elk, caribou and bear roam these parts and sharp eyes can always spot wildlife. The Cave and Basin showcases the birthplace of Canada’s national parks, a place bursting with minerals, steaming waters and secret trails.
Snowshoeing + Stars
Strap on your snowshoes and lose yourself in the Kootenay National Park. These shoes gift you the freedom to take untrodden paths, following the footsteps of wild hares, moose, and even wolves. Snowshoe on an easy trail along a bridge across the frozen Vermilion River and along the snowy path winding through a forest of pine trees to the Paint Pots, a cultural treasure within our National Park
Huskies + Howls
Get the pulse racing with adrenalin as you race beneath the shadows of towering ferns on a dogsled. Husky tours through the powder soft snow and blazing trails of the Spray Lakes Provincial Park invite you to be one of the pack. Learn about the ancient skills of dogsled sport as you cross unchartered ground and howl in delight beneath a diamond cut winter sky.
Ice Crystals + Canyons
In the warmer months the Johnston Canyon is all tumbling falls and flowers. In the winter the tourists clear, and the steel walkways cut into the canyon walls show a rare and striking side to this beauty spot. Hike the walkways and witness waterfalls frozen in time, glittering icicle curtains and iridescent turquoise pools that plunge into the deep.
Note: During your stay in Banff you may also want to enjoy a half or a full day snowmobiling at Panorama or sleigh ride or upgrade your Snowshoe or Dogsled Adventure to a Helicopter version (additional cost).
