Venture Insight

Experience the larger-than-life state that is Texas as you visit some of its most exciting cities on this 13-day self-drive adventure. Touch down in Fort Worth to discover its legendary cowboy culture before encountering the “Live Music Capital of the World” in Austin. Sink your toes into the Gulf Coast sand in the “Playground of the South” at Galveston, which is just a stone’s throw from Houston and its iconic Space Centre, then end your journey exploring the dynamic neighbourhoods of welcoming Dallas.

Cowboy Culture + Cattle Drives

Begin your adventure in the “City of Cowboys and Culture”, Fort Worth, which flourished as a trading post for cowboys at the end of the cattle-droving Chisholm Trail. Spend a full day exploring the Stockyards National Historic District to experience Fort Worth’s legendary cowboy culture and see a live herd of Texas Longhorns being driven down Exchange Avenue.

Then spend a night out at Billy Bob’s Texas, which is the largest honky tonk in the world. If time allows, discover Fort Worth’s artistic side at the outstanding Kimbell Art Museum or the striking Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth that was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

Blues + Breakfast Tacos

Depart Fort Worth and drive south to the “Live Music Capital of the World” in Austin, which serves as the dynamic capital of Texas. Hit the bars of Sixth Street to listen to live country, blues and rock’n’roll and stand beneath the soaring dome of the Texas State Capitol.

Begin the following day with one of Austin’s famous “breakfast tacos” before strolling through the grounds of the University of Texas to visit its art and science museums. Then step into a replica of the Oval Office at the LBJ Presidential Library.

Revolutionary Missions

Hit the road again as you travel through magnificent hill country to the city of San Antonio, which is renowned for its 18th-century Spanish mission, the Alamo. It’s here that the Battle of Alamo played out in 1836 as part of the Texan Revolution, with paintings and weaponry on display in the Long Barracks museum.

Hike or cycle along the Mission Trail to explore San Antonio’s colonial history, or enjoy a stroll along the cafe-lined River Walk that follows the banks of the San Antonio River, then get a bird’s eye view of the city from the Tower of the Americas.

Galveston – Hear the Seawinds Blowing

Leave San Antonio behind and head towards the Gulf Coast of Texas, discovering little-known beaches and charming seaside towns as you drive to the island city of Galveston. Wander through the Strand Historic District whose Victorian-era buildings are packed with antique stores and curio shops, then explore the marine life and tropical plant species of the Moody Gardens pyramids.

Relax on the lazy river and lagoon sands of Palm Beach or get your thrills on the amusement rides of the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.

Space + The Sixth Floor

From Galveston, it’s just a short hop north to the sprawling metropolis of Houston where you can get a behind-the-scenes look at NASA’s astronaut training and flight control facilities at the Space Centre Houston. Stroll through the green oasis of Hermann Park, which is home to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and stop by the stately Houston Grand Opera, then dine at one of the swank new bistros within the 19th-century Historic District.

Continue on to your final destination, the welcoming city of Dallas, which sprawls across a diverse array of neighbourhoods just a stone’s throw from Fort Worth. See the site where President John F. Kennedy’s was assassinated in 1963 at the Sixth Floor Museum, explore the city’s Arts District home to the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Crow Collection of Asian Art.

Discover the innovative dining scene in Deep Ellum and mingle with the locals in the drinking holes of Greenville.
