Venture Insight

Surrounded by nothing but nature, breathing in the crisp northern air looking out over the view from your lakefront cabin at the Southern Lakes Resort is an unforgettable experience. A frozen winter wonderland in one of the world’s last true frontiers, discover the Yukon in a different way.  Your home base for the next four days, watch the aurora flash gold and green across the sky, take a dog sled ride into the nearby forest, and retreat to the warmth of your traditional log cabin.

Log Cabins, Lake + oh, those views!

Once a roadhouse in the Goldrush days at the turn of the last century and still to this day known by the locals as Ten Mile Ranch, it is now the very beautiful Southern Lakes Resort, uniquely situated overlooking Tagish Lake in the Yukon.  Traditional log cabins with a modern touch, it will be the view from your balcony that will draw you eye.  This is your home for the next four days, to explore the rugged beauty and vastness of the Yukon in Winter.  It takes about an hour and 40 minutes transfer from Whitehorse to the resort.

Sleds + Snowmobiles

Days at Southern Lakes Resort are spent enjoying nature in all its splendour.  Travel like the Yukon pioneers of old with a dogsled adventure where the mushers pull up right in front your your cabin. Strap on snow shoes and follow fresh tracks of a lynx through the boreal forest or climb a hill for fantastic views. Watch Yukon’s winter scenery unfold with a full day snowmobiling – fast paced and fun, with no prior experience necessary. Or take a ski plane tour for an aerial view of the vast frozen landscape.

Stars + Skylights

Without notice, the Northern Lights will dance soundlessly across the sky.  With the cabins ideally positioned along the lake shore overlooking the valley, watch the spectacle unfold in the privacy of your cabin, or head to the viewing site where you can clasp a mug of something warm  and listen to your guide’s knowledge of this natural phenomenon.NOTE: Viewing of the Aurora Borealis is dependent on weather + cannot be guranteed.

Includes

3 nights' accommodation in a private cabin, meals as specified by travel agent, return shuttle transfers between Whitehorse + the resort, 3 nights of unguided Northern Lights viewing, 1 to 3 hour showshoeing excursion (or similar) - depending on weather + fitness level (December to April), winter clothing package

We have experiences for everyone - from the active traveller wanting to hike and canoe in the Canadian Rockies, discovering the best on offer in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, or combining a cruise with luxury rail and accommodation.

Those looking for indulgence should try the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort package for a luxury escape that sets a new standard for all “glamping” experiences, or tick the Northern Lights off your bucket list and head to the Yukon.
