Venture Insight

Escape to the cool air climate in the mountains of northern Thailand and admire the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape. This is the perfect escape for nature lovers as you see how various hill tribe communities live together supported by the Royal Project for their agriculture and craft works.

Elephants + Hilltribes

Travel north from Chiang Mai for approximately 60 kms to the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp for an exhilarating elephant trek through the neighbouring jungle, upward to a remote Lisu Hill Tribe Village. The Lisu Hill Tribe people originated in Tibet and their villages are usually located in the mountains around 1,000 meters. Lunch at local restaurant.

After lunch we continue for two hours’ drive uphill to Doi Angkhang to visit the Royal Angkhang Agricultural Station Project. Check in at Angkhang Nature Resort with dinner at resort.

Misty morning, treks + mule ride

After breakfast, drive to visit the Muser Hilltribe at Khob Dong Village. Khob Dong village has a spectacular viewpoint and a walkway to the top of the hill which is covered in mist every morning.

About 4 kms from Khob Dong Village, we continue to the Nor Lae Village (Thai-Burma Border) where the people of Pa-Hrong Hill Tribe live, of Burmese descent and with their own unique language and culture.

It is here also that there are spectacular views from the peak over the border into Burma. After having lunch at a local restaurant, trek a short distance uphill to admire the beautiful mountain scenery. In the afternoon trek to Baan Khum to experience a mule riding experience uphill into the jungle.

Baan Khum is close to the entrance of the Royal Angkhang Agricultural Station Project – a small community of people from various heritages serving tourists with small shops and food stalls. Dinner is at the resort.

Rhododendron blooms

After breakfast enjoy a morning at leisure. Optional experiences are available for those who enjoy trekking or cycling to take in the glorious viewpoints of the Doi Angkhang area, some over 1,900m above sea level.

If visiting between November to March, the rhododendron blooms in both red and white, though only the red variety is usually seen in Doi Angkhang. Known as the one thousand year rose, it grows in profusion during this time. In the afternoon we depart the resort for the 3 hr drive back to Chiang Mai.
