Venture Insight

Discover a world of fossils, cowboy culture and central Canadian treasures, combining destinations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. It is a fascinating trip to a world caught on the cusp of yesterday and tomorrow. The swaying gold grasslands of the prairies embraces the traveller seeking an authentic cultural experience of a Canadian cowboy plus the added bonus of some down time in a luxurious setting in the heart of the boreal forest of Elk Ridge, the Lakeland region and Prince Albert National Park.

Honky Tonk + Dinosaurs

Start your prehistoric adventure in Calgary. This once upon a time cowboy town has shifted gear, and whilst you can still see the honky tonk sights of Stampede City, there is also a coffee culture, fine dining and fabulous museums. Head out into the fossil strewn desert of the Badlands, the epicenter of thousands of years of history, this UNESCO heritage park is rich in pickings for those looking to explore a prehistoric boneyard.

Rolling Plains + Ranch Days

A sea of wheat is waiting as you cross the borders into Saskatchewan. Gone is the drama of the mountains to be replaced with gentle landscapes, farmlands and fascinating people. La Reata Ranch provides an honest and familial welcome under an endless blue sky. Spend a couple of days herding baby calves from horseback, galloping across open plains, and telling stories around a crackling fire. This is your chance channel the cowboy/girl in us all – in style!

Al Capone to the Mounties

It seems odd that you would find such an infamous little place like Moose Jaw – an island in a lake of grass. From being Al Capone’s haven during prohibition to the tragic slave tunnels burrowed beneath the town – there is a lot to learn in these parts.

Tour the heritage centre and watch re-enactments beneath the ground, and find out how Moose Jaw earned itself the namesake of Canada’s little Chicago. Swing by for a night in Regina and fall in love with the sight of Mounties, flocks of geese and beautiful breakfast bowls.

Ease into Elk Ridge Resort

Tee off against a backdrop of fragrant pine, geo thermal stone therapy at the spa, and delectable dining beside the fire – the Elk Ridge Resort is the perfect blend of rest and rejuvenation you have been waiting for. Those who are saddle sore can fully unwind in the plush surroundings of this wilderness resort. Cosy cottages and luxury lodges deliver unrivalled views of the lake and forest, and the championship golf course draws many a high-profile player.

Provincial Towns + Pretty Parks

Pass through the Provincial towns of Lloydminster and Edmonton en-route to Jasper Park. These towns capture the realness of Canadian life, with urban parks, unique neighbourhoods, boutique galleries and casual dining spots. There’s a free-spirited mood to move you, and a weekend vibe that seems to last all week.

Alpine Meadows + Mountains

Leave the flatlands behind as you head into the might of the Jasper National Park. Etched jagged mountain peaks across the sky, alpine meadows that buzz with spring flowers, and the wild and wondrous landscape that greets at every bend will keep you enthralled.

Glaciers and glassy lakes throw out a spectrum of blues and greens, as you take one of the most scenic drives in the world. And there’s always time to swing by the trendy alpine towns of Jasper and Banff, for shopping on wide boulevards and gourmet dining.

Precipice to Foothills

After several days soaking up the splendour of the Rockies, descend back into the beautiful foothills of Calgary.
