Palaces + Rivers of Kings
Leave the vibrant metropolis of Bangkok and head north to the summer palace of Siam’s kings before boarding a boat to travel upstream on the Chao Phraya River, known as the River of Kings, past old temple ruins and in Ayutthaya that tell their own story. Sculptures of Buddhas draped in orange threads and architectural features of abandoned temples and monasteries are part of the “Sukhothai Style’.
Water Lake Monastery + Caverns of Buddha
Panoramic views passing villages en route to Hpa An, where colourful central markets and limestone caverns filled with Buddhas and pagodas are explored where locals believe that in one of his many lives, Lord Buddha lived here in the form of a white elephant. By ferry boat we will cross the river to Lumbini garden at the foot of the Zwekabin mountain and to Kyaunkamlab Stupa, also known as the water monastery, for great views.
Golden Sun Sets + Rises
A Little Tip for Golden Rock: As it is only overnight, take a small backpack for essentials to avoid climbing with heavy luggage. The weather is usually cold on the mountain, so pack a fleece/jacket. If travelling in the Wet Season (May-September) you will need a rain coat/umbrella.
7 nights' accommodation + daily breakfast in hotels, sightseeing as per itinerary, transportation in private aircon. vehicle, English speaking local guides; admission fees to indicated sights, meals as outlined in itinerary, domestic government tax + service charge. NOTE: The Myanmar Immigration checkpoint at Myawaddy is open from 7:00am local time for Myanmar citizens only. For foreign visitors the Myanmar Immigration office opens at 9:30am. The best time to start from Myawaddy gate is round about 10:30am.
Be enchanted by scenes of shimmering rice paddies, emerald green seas + limestone mountains that are a backdrop for romantic images of gilded temples, colonial architecture + saffron robed monks where a lasting impression will be the people + their stories.
Indulge in local cuisines, take temple trails through ancient kingdoms, wander lantern lit lanes in old merchant towns + slow down the pace cruising down the rivers of the Mekong or Ayeyarwady, where time seems to have stood still.
