Capitals of Ancient Kingdoms

From Bangkok travel through vivacious floating markets and hundreds of sampans loaded with fruits and vegetables, visit Kanchanaburi and the Bridge of the River Kwai whose construction was made by prisons of WW2 then by train to The Death Railway. The next day travel by boat through lush forests to arrive in the archaeological gem of Ayutthaya with glimpses into the past of how grand life used to be before driving on to the old city of Lopburi, one of the most important centres of Buddhism. Cross the Isaan plateau dotted with Khmer monuments to the magnificent Phimai temple, built at by the older Khmers at the end of the 11th Century before crossing into Cambodia.

Battambang Exploring

Explore the beautiful countryside by bike with a local student guide visiting families who produce the traditional – from rice paper, dried bananas to bamboo sticky rice learning first-hand about every day in rural Cambodia. Lunch with the locals, visit a temple on a hill for wonderful views and drop into the only vineyard in the country. Final stop is the natural rock formation of Phnom Sampeou, a series of caves ans former stronghold of the Khmer Rouge.

Ruins of Sleeping Giants + Jungle Clad Temples

Hidden beneath a canopy of trees and left uninhabited for nearly 800 years is the Sleepoing Giant “Banteay Chhmar”, a lesser known temple complex in the jungles of north-western Cambodia away from the hordes of tourists, was built by the great Khmer ruler Jayayarman VII and roughly translated means “Citadel of Cats” and is loved for its magnificent carvings of Lokesyara with 32 arms as well as the Hall of Dancers. Continue to explore the outer Angkor complex including Ta Prohm and the jungle clad face tower of Samnang Tasok.
