Journeys onward and return
Travel time to Greater Kruger Reserve from Johannesburg (and return) takes approximately six hours along tarred roads. Take advantage of two comfort stops at clean service stations where you can stretch your legs and purchase some snacks. On arrival at the drop off point, you will be collected and driven to the camp to meet your ranger who will explain the rest of the day’s activities as well as information on the two resident prides of lions known as the Ross and Giraffes. After dinner, fall asleep to the sounds of baritone roars across the plains and dream of the exciting days to follow.
Days like these
Start with an early morning wakeup call followed by coffee and a light breakfast, as you take in the African sunrise before heading off on a morning game walk, returning to camp for brunch after 3-4 hours. During the course of the walk your highly qualified and trained field guide will teach you how to track, read the bush and educate you about all the various plant species. The walk is not too strenuous and gives you the opportunity to encounter giraffe, zebra, warthog and kudu, to mention just a few.
Relax for a few hours at the facilities of the camp, before meeting again in the afternoon for tea and a light lunch. The camp features a beautiful splash pool & deck, perfect for cooling off in the summer months and the main lodge area offers guest the use of the library.
Afternoon and night game drive take about 3-4 hours when in the cooler hours of the late afternoon the animals become more active, increasing the chances of seeing wild dog, aardvark, duiker and hippo, among others. Night drives are done with a powerful spotlight with which to search for animals not often seen in the day, such as leopard, bush baby and if you are lucky, the very rare and seldom spotted pangolin.
Immerse yourself in a natural and authentic bush experience staying in chalets equipped with mosquito nets, showers, solar powered lanterns as well as pedestal mist fans. Facilities include a main area which houses a comfortable lounge with two sitting areas and a library. The dining room has a large table where, as per safari tradition, everyone dines together to enjoy each other’s company and share stories of the day’s game sightings. There is also a boma area with camp fireand also where you can experience a traditional SouthAfrican “braaivleis”cooked over the open fire. It can get very hot in summer and thankfully the camp has a beautiful splash pool with decking areawhere guests can relax and siesta during the midday heat between game activities.
