Experience the stunning viticultural landscapes and coastal beauty of northern California on this self-drive and cycling adventure from San Francisco. Tour the wineries and art galleries of the Napa Valley and Sonoma on two wheels at your own pace before exploring the boutiques and gastronomy of charming Healdsburg. Then journey to the dramatic coastal village of Jenner for wildlife encounters in the Russian River Estuary before touring the rocky bluffs and secluded coves of the Sonoma Coast and Point Reyes National Seashore.



Wine Touring on Two Wheels

From the vibrant city of San Francisco, travel north to the picturesque town of Napa, which nestles at the heart of the Napa Valley wine-growing region. Wander through its charismatic streets that are clustered with late-19th-century architecture and dine at one of the gourmet restaurants lining the riverfront promenade.

If time allows, head to the di Rosa Preserve that lies in the Carneros Hills to the west of Napa and houses the extensive art collection of Rene di Rosa amongst acres of landscaped grounds Make the short hop north to the charming town of Yountville where you’ll embark on a cycling tour through Napa’s magnificent wine country.

Your local guide will take you to two of the region’s most impressive wineries to sample the Napa’s renowned Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Return the following day to explore at your leisure, pedalling at your own pace as you discover hidden gems and boutique art galleries nestled within the viticultural landscapes.

“Peanuts” and Pinot Noir

Depart Napa for the short drive to Santa Rosa, taking time to explore the charming towns that dot the city surrounds. Discover the life and times of “Peanuts” cartoonist Charles M. Schulz at the dedicated museum and dine at one of the alfresco restaurants in Santa Rosa’s vibrant Courthouse Square.

The following day sees you back on the bike, cycling from the historic city of Sonoma through its vineyard-swathed surrounds. Your guide will escort you to family-owned wineries where you can sample Sonoma’s famous Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, with a gourmet picnic served overlooking the breathtaking surrounds.

Small Town Charms

Make a day trip to the picturesque town of Healdsburg, which nestles on the Russian River in the heart of Sonoma’s wine country. Discover its eclectic galleries along the Healdsburg Artwalk and explore the vintage shops and independent bookstores that cluster around the town plaza. Healdsburg has made a name for its locally-sourced and artisan produce, with fine cheeses, bread and wine to accompany a lazy lunch.

From the Valley to the Sea

Leave Santa Rosa behind as you head west to the Pacific Coast, with the coastal village of Jenner your destination for the day. Perched atop a bluff where the Russian River meets the ocean, it’s a spectacular area for wildlife spotting, with Pacific harbour seals, brown pelicans and ospreys all spotted along its estuary. Stop in at the Sonoma Coast Visitors Center to learn about the natural highlights of the region and relax on the sandy shores of Goat Rock State Beach.

Coastal Beauty

Make a day trip south to explore the magnificent Sonoma Coast, which comprises rocky headlands and hidden beaches along the Pacific Coast Highway1. Discover natural arches and secluded coves en route to the picturesque village of Bodega Bay that is famed as a setting for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film “The Birds”.

Your final day on the road takes you back to San Francisco, travelling through the breathtaking coastal landscapes of the Point Reyes National Seashore. Photograph the dramatic Alamere Falls and spot migrating whales from the 19th-century Point Reyes Lighthouse, then venture through the grasslands and pine forests of the Phillip Burton Wilderness.
