Sample artisan produce straight from the source while encountering towering redwood forests and dramatic coastlines on this self-driving foodie adventure from San Francisco to Seattle. Experience the vibrant farmer’s markets and eclectic eateries of San Francisco, participate in a guided tasting along the Sonoma Marin Cheese Trail and feast on freshly caught seafood on the Oregon Coast. Enjoy farm-to-table dining encounters in Portland before travelling through the orchards of the Columbia River Gorge, ending your journey at the iconic Pike Place market in Seattle.

Cable Cars + Golden Gate

Begin your artisan adventure in the charismatic city of San Francisco, with its hilly streets packed with gourmet restaurants, eclectic cafes and vibrant farmer’s markets. Jump aboard the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf to feast on freshly caught seafood and visit an artisan bakery to try the local sourdough.

Then head north to experience the majestic redwood forest of Muir Woods before continuing on to the Sonoma Marin Cheese Trail. Visit one of the many farmsteads to get a behind-the-scenes look at cheese making and participate in a guided tasting to savour the local flavours.

From here it’s a scenic drive through the picturesque Cloverdale Wine Country to the coastal city of Fort Bragg.

Redwood Empires

Venture north along the spectacular Redwood Empire of California’s North Coast where moss-covered redwoods and Douglas firs meet the azure waters of the Pacific. Stop in the port city of Eureka to wander amidst its elaborate Victorian homes, then continue on to Arcata where Humboldt County’s largest farmer’s market is held in its lively plaza.

Wake early the next day to witness some of the tallest trees in the world within Redwood National Park, then cross the border into Oregon. Make a stop at the Bandon Cheese Factory to sample their artisan cheese and delicious ice cream before continuing to the bustling port of Coos Bay.

Coastal Encounters

Soak up the dramatic coastal landscapes, bird-filled marshlands and temperate rainforests that characterise the Oregon coast as you travel north, passing through the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Get up close to Steller sea lions at the Sea Lion Caves near Florence and catch a glimpse of migrating whales from the 19th-century Heceta Head Lighthouse, then end the day dining on locally-caught seafood in Lincoln City and growlers of beer.

The Rose City

Leave the Oregon coast behind as you travel inland to Tillamook where local creameries have joined forces to produce an outstanding cheese. Continue on to the laid-back city of Portland, backdropped by the snow-capped peak of Mount Hood, for a full day to discover its dynamic food scene at innovative restaurants, food trucks and microbreweries.

Begin your day with freshly-roasted coffee before visiting the outstanding Portland Art Museum and wandering through the magnificent Japanese and rose gardens. Or drive east to explore the rural landscapes and fresh produce on Columbia River Gorge’s Fruit Loop scenic drive.

Salmon Throwing in Seattle

Cross the border into Washington state as you drive north towards the “Emerald City of Seattle”, stopping to explore the glacial-carved landscapes of Mount Rainier National Park and taking in the views of snow-capped Mount St. Helens. Spend the evening at the vibrant Seattle Waterfront to feast on local crab and mouthwatering seafood sourced from Puget Sound.

Spend your final full day exploring the sights of Seattle, including the oldest, continually-operating farmer’s market in the United States at Pike Place. Shop for artisan bread, cheese and fresh produce, then witness the famous “salmon throwing” at the adjacent fish market. Soak up the sweeping vistas from the 160 metre-high Space Needle observation deck and browse through antique shops, art galleries and eclectic restaurants of Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square district.
