A Pilgrim Hike to Adam’s Peak
Lofty enough to puncture the clouds, the holy mountain of Sri Pada has been capturing the imagination of pilgrims for centuries. Adams Peak is pure poetry – and a place of mighty myth and legends. It is said to be the spot where Adams first footstep fell after being flung from heaven. It is said to be the sacred footprint left by Buddha as be ascended to paradise. It is also said to be the place where fluttering butterflies go to lay down their head and die.
For travellers, climbing the mighty mountain is a rare and unbridled honour, best done in the dead of night so you can greet the sunrise from the top of the world. Step after step, you ascend alongside pilgrims making your way through the dark to the precipice of the 2,234m high mountain. For intrepid travellers seeking serendipity, Adams Peak is a must.
Steps to the Stars
Start your journey on the ground by checking into the gorgeous Governor’s Mansion Hotel. Spend the afternoon immersed in sheer relaxation prior to your pre-dawn climb. The Governor’s Mansion is nestled on a misty hillside, overlooking tumbling tea plantations.

Pushing through the dark, the climb will take approximately 3-4 hours. Oil lamps lead the way, throwing moonlit reflections across the uneven stairs. Small stalls with sleepy eyed locals punctuate the path, offering snacks and water for weary climbers.

As you reach the top you can rest easy knowing you have earnt your place in witnessing what is said to be the most beautiful sunrise in the world. Watching the stars blink out to make way for shades of gold and blue, watching the shadows be replaced with sparkling green mountains and mist makes every step worthwhile.
After returning from the mountain you can enjoy a delectable breakfast and steamy hot shower back at the Governor’s Mansion.

Few islands in the world offer the diversity of Sri Lanka. From the vibrant + chaotic capital of Colombo, the central plains of the Cultural Triangle, tea plantations, exotic wildlife in national parks to coastlines of palm-fringed crescent shaped beaches.
On a different latitude but just as diverse and a little more cosmopolitan, Singapore has redefined itself as one of the great culinary cities of the world to be enjoyed over several days + not just a stopover.
