A Canadian Winter + Northern Lights Escape
When temperatures drop it is the sparkling winter beauty of white peaks, epic glaciers and frozen lakes that define the Canadian Rockies as Canada’s premier winter destination. Combine your trip to Banff and Lake Louise along with a magical Northern Lights experience in the Northwest Territories set in the unique natural surroundings of Great Slave Lake for a winter escape like no other.
Framed Peaks of Winter Wonderland
After touching down in Calgary, you will be whisked away to the breathtaking landscape of Banff where you will spend three nights to explore the best the resort town has to offer.
Stroll along the main street with the framed backdrop of stunning Mount Rundle and Mount Cascade. Beyond the borders of the tiny town are frozen sparkling lakes and the mighty Bow Valley Parkway, home to the Johnston Canyon and its frozen rivers and waterfalls.
The National Park setting is spectacular, but in Banff you also have the delight of cutting edge art galleries, world class cuisine, lakes, secret trails and stunning chateaux.
Snowshoeing + Stars
Winter beauty at Lake Louise
Breathe in the fresh air and take in the scenery so breathtaking, you wouldn’t – couldn’t – believe it without experiencing it for yourself. Photos never do this beautiful lake justice, with the white peaks of the surrounding mountains and the sparkling frozen lake. Take the time to wander around the lakeside path taking in the stillness of the moment.
A spectacular optional Bubbles Heli Tour
A uniquely Canadian destination experience. See this incredible natural phenomenon on Abraham Lake, whereby gas bubbles freeze at various depths under the lake surface – it is a photo safari like no other. A 20 minute six glacier helicopter tour plus a one hour snowshoe hike – this is an additional cost and based on minimum of 2 people.
Get lost with the Northern Lights in the Northwest Territories
Capital of the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife sits on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, from its gold mining beginnings as a frontier mining town, it has evolved into a vibrant city with wilderness right on its doorstep (flight from Calgary additional cost).
There is no denying it is cold out there, but with your winter wardrobe provided, don’t waste a minute of the six hours of daylight to kick start your days with an adrenaline rush! Shuffle on snowshoes over packed snow, snuggle under blankets whilst zipping across forested trails in a dog sled, or rush down powder snow inclines on inflated tubes.
And when darkness falls you are in the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights. Over the next two nights make tracks via snow tracked van over frozen Great Slave Lake to your cosy little wilderness cabin. Hugging mugs of warm beverages complemented by cookies and snacks, under clear starry nights ribbons of emerald will light up the sky where you will be mesmorised by the colour and movement before returning back to Yellowknife and your hotel.
Note: Viewing of the Aurora Borealis is dependent on weather and cannot be guaranteed.
